Gila: pictures and some information

Hello guys,
It was great meeting you all yesterday!
If you haven't read the first post please read it and then come back here.
Our field trip to Arlington will be on Sunday, September 21th, at 3:00 pm, we'll spend some hours on site, you'll start to do the site analysis on site, and hopefully we'll meet JoAnn Robinson who did a history survey about the old burying ground and will be able to give you some valuable information.

Here's some information about Landmark and Focal point:

Landmark- is an object that has qualities of symbolism, identity and orientation. Landmarks are used to find direction. For example: the Eiffel Tower in Paris is a landmark, you can see it from most parts of the city and understand your location. In Manhattan, the Empire State Building is a landmark, and so were the Twin Towers, on the other hand, Central Park is also a landmark. In small towns when you ask locals for directions they may tell you something like this:"turn left, drive until you'll see a weird pink house/huge metal statue/old oak tree on your right, go straight....." (these are all landmarks). Landmarks are part of a context and are usually common to (most of) the people.

Focal Point- is a local object that draws attention. for example: when we design a garden, a water feature or an ornament tree can be focal points, so does decoration/sign on a building facade. In an urban environment, there are many focal points and they can be individual to people, depend on their personal preference.

Here are some pictures from yesterday, you can download them and use them if you like.
Have a nice week, Gila
